For anyone who has ever played a hand-held, proper Pokemon game, be it on some form of GameBoy or the DS, imagine stripping everything out of the game except the battles, slapping on some half-hearted customisation options for trainers, and then amping up the graphics of the title. Congratulations, you've just successfully imagined Pokemon Battle Revolution.
While the Pokemon fights are the main meat of the adventure games, it's the exploration parts that give the games the most substance, and can actually be quite enjoyable at times. Therefore, to be left just battling over and over again without these parts can prove to be rather tedious, especially as you're being charged far more to actually do this!

Battle Revolution takes you to the resort of Poketopia (how long do you think it took them to come up with that one?) where trainers go to pit their wits against one another. In order to fight in the Colosseums, you will need to be in possession of a Battle Pass, which shows the trainer who will represent you in a fight, and the (up to) 6 Pokemon that they have at their disposal. If you have a DS and a copy of Pokemon Diamond or Pearl, you can copy the Pokemon you've captured into the game to create your own custom Battle Pass. If not, you'll have to make do with rental passes, which you can win more of as you progress.
You will also earn coupons through continued success, which can be used in the game's shop to buy new items of clothing for your trainers. Again, if you own one of the DS games, you can also spend your coupons on mystery gifts that can then be transferred over to the game.
